Diamond Head is one of the premier neighborhoods on Oahu. It is a world famous landmark that got its modern day name from British sailors in the 19th century, who mistook calcite crystals embedded in the rock for diamonds. The actual Hawaiian name for this famous landmark is Lae ahi, from lae 'browridge, promontory' plus ahi 'tuna' because the shape of the ridge line resembles the shape of a tunas dorsal fin. As you can see the Hawaiians, as always, were more impressed with fish than they were with shiny rocks. In any event, you can spend many millions on a home in the Diamond Head area but you will find it difficult to spend less the at least $1M. I would be happy to help you search through these listing as they are some of the most beautiful properties on the Island. If you elect to look at all properties in this broad neighborhood you will find some moderately priced but they would be far removed from the water and the beautiful properties more commonly associated with Diamond Head proper.
